Happy Valentine’s Day!! This is a chocolate cake with strawberry Swiss meringue buttercream, and there are fresh strawberries and white chocolate hearts for the decoration. I used Wilton’s heart shaped cake pans, and the cake layers were perfect and looked amazing!
About the Cake
This was my first time making frosting with fresh fruit, and I love how the color and flavor turned out without any artificial ingredients! I used a few different tips to create all of the swirls on the top of the cake as well as a wide, round tip to pipe the frosting in between the cake layers. The way I made the chocolate hearts was by using Wilton's heart-shaped lollipop molds, and the hearts were super smooth and came out of the molds without any issues (I didn't have any candy melts, so I just used a Ghirardelli white chocolate bar).
One of my favorite parts of making this cake was making the frosting because there’s something very satisfying about seeing how fluffy egg whites can get. I actually had a mini heart attack while making the frosting, but then I realized I didn’t do anything wrong because it was supposed to look curdled at some point . The whole process of baking the cake, using new techniques to decorate it, and making heart shaped cakes for the first time was so fun, and I’m very happy with how it turned out! I hope you all have a great day and eat plenty of chocolate (there’s no such thing as too much chocolate, right?)!
